Position overview:

WANTED: Serious data geeks.  Teaching Strategies is looking for a highly talented, innovative Data Scientist to join its technology development team.  We need someone with extensive experience aggregating data across multiple systems and transforming the vast amount of data into valuable information for our customers.  This team member will be instrumental in defining and realizing future data products for Teaching Strategies.  We're looking for technologists that want to make a real impact in early childhood education.

Specific roles and responsibilities:  

  • Designs and develops large datastores of aggregated data from disparate systems
  • Discovers meaningful patterns in the data
  • Applies advanced technologies including machine learning and map reduce to quickly process vast amounts of data
  • Defines best practices for secure data management
  • Works with business stakeholders to define and execute on business plans based on the data


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Math, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in data science and database architecture
  • Experience with SQL databases, NoSQL databases and big data systems
  • Experience working with API-based data sources
  • Experience with programming languages commonly used for data analytics (R, Python, C)
  • Patience, rigor, and the ability to communicate clearly
  • Highly collaborative work style
