The Early Childhood Education sector has been one of the fastest growing segments of the Education market over the past few years. With bi-partisan support and an increasing understanding of the positive impact that whole child development can have on academic and life success, the sector is expected to continue significant growth in the public and private sectors in the coming years worldwide. Additionally, Build Back Better promises to dramatically expand access to high quality early childhood education.

In addition to the very healthy market tailwinds, there are two other significant reasons this opportunity is compelling:

  1. There are few sectors where the intersection of for-profit and for-good combine so powerfully. The opportunity to create lasting effect on human outcomes is profound: 80% of the human brain is formed by the age of 3 and providing the right developmental experiences from birth to age 5 have an outsized effect on what happens in school and, more importantly, in life. By 3rd grade, developmental deficits are very difficult to remediate and too often seed indelible effect. There is no way to move the needle on human opportunity more drastically than improving the quality and availability of effective early childhood learning.

The early childhood space is a step or two behind the advances seen in similar industries such as healthcare in which the application of powerful data, recommendation engines, dashboards, and interactive tools has significantly increased the speed and precision of diagnosis, remediation, and interaction between practitioner and patient. Early childhood education is one of the few last frontiers in which technology and data can truly be force multipliers.
  3. There is no other company in the market with the reach, reputation, mission-orientation, balance sheet, and financial sponsors to make the kind of significant and accelerated headway over the next few years as Teaching Strategies.
  4. The Director of Product, Platform Services will be critical in pushing this agenda forward. With the investment dollars and culture to support explosive growth this individual will contribute significantly to Teaching Strategies impact and revenue goals.

The Opportunity

Based anywhere in the U.S. and reporting directly to the VP, Product, the Director of Product, Platform Services will be an integral member of the Product team and a key driver of the company's transition to a digital SaaS company. You will be responsible for leading the strategy, planning, and execution of our next generation SaaS platform that forms the backbone for the company's digital ecosystem. You will also need to understand our larger ecosystem vision well enough to make short and long-term trade-offs across different products that are connected through our digital ecosystem.


You will work closely with other product managers, systems analysts, delivery managers, developers, operations, and UX/UI designers to drive the development, testing, rollout and evolution of Teaching Strategies continued growth as a digital SaaS company. You will also support the development of more junior Product Managers and help drive Product Management best practices and team culture.


Responsibilities

  • Defines and drives the overall platform product strategy, roadmap, and requirements in support of our digital ecosystem
  • Drives one or more cross-functional "Pods" consisting of Product, UX, Engineering, and other subject-matter experts to take ideas from concept to launch
  • Serves as the voice of the customer for our platform modernization efforts and our licensing, provisioning, integrations, and administrator-facing tools
  • Manages and/or mentors one or more Product Managers in support of the Platform ecosystem roadmap
  • Serve as a trusted partner and thought leader to our VP of Product, VP of Engineering, and Platform Architect in all things Platform
  • Establishes and tracks OKRs across core platform tools and services
  • Stays abreast of evolving market and customer needs to guide product strategy and roadmap decisions
  • Continuously looks at the product from an end-user's perspective, driving the complete experience to the best possible outcomes for customers and the business
  • Ensures the end-user experience is represented as a top priority throughout all stages of the software development lifecycle P
  • Partners with customer support, partner success, and RevOps teams to serve as a go-to-resource for prioritizing strategic feedback and engaging in continuous discovery
  • Partners with delivery managers and engineering leadership to ensure business requirements are well defined and a scope that's delivering against the product roadmap.
  • Partners with Sales and Marketing in support of our go-to-market efforts as a Product representative
  • Oversees the care and feeding of the digital platform, ensuring all features and functionality receive attention, including technical debt and infrastructure as well as new features.

Experience / Skills Required:

  • BA/BS in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience is a plus
  • 8-10 years of relevant platform work experience with large-scale B2B SaaS and/or digital consumer product organizations
  • 8-10 years of relevant work experience designing and delivering digital software products in cross-functional teams
  • Deep understanding and experience building and scaling platform systems including software licensing and provisioning, administrative self-service tools, data portability, and 3rd party data integrations
  • Exceptional communication skills with a strong bias for action and a willingness to be relentlessly resourceful to deliver value for customers and the business
  • Strong technical aptitude with a natural ability to bring clarity to complex situations and topics
  • A strong bias for data-driven decision making and product analytics
  • A deep understanding of design thinking, customer development, and product-led growth is a plus
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, agile environment
  • Able to produce results independently as well as collaboratively in a cross-functional team
  • Experience working side-by-side with software developers and a solid understanding of the agile SDLC
  • A passion for early childhood education is a plus-but if you don't already have it you will within one day of understanding what's at stake and how much you can make a difference.
