Position overview:

Teaching Strategies is looking for a highly talented, innovative and creative database engineer to join its technology development team.

The database engineer is responsible for growing our data infrastructure to support analytics and predictive product features. You will lead the effort to develop our data warehouse to enable engineering, analytics, and product teams to incorporate data insights into our product and Business Intelligence tools. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with an agile, quality driven team that is focused on using data to make a real impact in early childhood education. Our platform is quickly evolving so you need to be someone ready to take on challenging refactoring work, new technologies and automation, automation, automation. 

Specific roles and responsibilities:

  • Designs and supports the database and table schemas for new and evolving sources of data brought into the data warehouse
  • Creates and supports the ETL to facilitate bringing data into the data warehouse using SQL Server Integration Services
  • Designs and develops analytic and reporting solutions
  • Monitors and continuously optimizes performance and scalability
  • Establishes best practices for data warehousing techniques and architecture

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL Server and T-SQL Coding
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL Server Integration Services (or similar ETL tool)
  • 5+ years of programming experience
  • Desired experience with tools like Spark, Map Reduce and the Hadoop ecosystem including Hive or Pig
  • Ability to complete responsibilities effectively and efficiently with minimal direction
  • Regularly shares their best practices to help develop others
  • Seeks out new challenges and growth opportunities
